How Much Do Professional Headshots Cost in London?
Most professional headshot photographers in London charge between £150 and £450. That's the realistic market rate for a proper session. Not the outliers, not the photo booths. Some established names start from £300 or more before you've even discussed what you need.
At those prices, you're typically getting a studio space, an experienced photographer, and a handful of edited images. The studio itself often accounts for a significant chunk of what you're paying. If the session happens in a room you didn't ask for and won't remember, it's worth asking whether that overhead is actually adding anything to the photo.
The accessible end of the market tells a different story. Pop-up services, photo booths, and walk-in options can come in well below £100, but the trade-off is usually minimal direction, fast throughput, and one or two images if that. The gap between those and a proper session is significant.
What the different price points actually get you
At the top end, £300 to £500 plus, you're paying for an established name, a central London studio, longer session time, and more selects. For some roles and industries that investment makes sense. For most professionals who need a strong LinkedIn photo and a few usable images, it doesn't. You're largely paying for a room and a reputation.
In the middle of the market, roughly £99 to £200, you get a proper session of 30 to 60 minutes, a photographer who knows how to direct people, and a set of edited images. This is where most of the credible options sit. Quality varies significantly within this range depending on how experienced the photographer is at actually working with people rather than just operating a camera.
Below £99, the market fragments. Some photographers at this price point are excellent. Many are not. The editing is often basic, the session short, and the direction minimal. A technically acceptable result is possible. A great one is less likely.
What you should actually be paying for
The session length matters less than the direction you receive during it. A 45-minute session with a photographer who doesn't know how to put people at ease will produce worse photos than a 20-minute session with someone who does.
When you're evaluating a photographer, look at their portfolio for evidence of natural-looking subjects. Stiff, slightly awkward shots in an otherwise professional-looking gallery is a tell. The best headshot photographers produce subjects who look relaxed and present. That's a skill that develops through volume and repetition, not equipment.
Turnaround time is worth paying attention to. Three working days is a reasonable standard. If you need photos faster, check whether rush delivery is available and what it costs.
The number of final edited images matters too. Some sessions deliver two or three. Others give you significantly more. For a LinkedIn headshot you probably only need one or two good ones, but having a few to choose from is useful.
The AI headshot question
Services that generate AI headshots from selfies have come down significantly in price, some as low as £10 to £20. The results have improved. But they still tend to produce a version of you that looks slightly uncanny to anyone who knows you in person. Fine for some contexts. Not ideal for senior roles, client-facing positions, or anywhere trust is built on first impressions.
